Our Reader: Good Samaritan 5K, 10K races fundraise to make quality, affordable healthcare available for those in need

Christian Health Service of Syracuse (CHSOS) is a local 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded on the belief that primary healthcare should be made affordable and available to all patients, regardless of their financial needs or level of insurance coverage. Our mission is to reach the medically under-served of central Ne w York with high quality healthcare coupled with the love of Jesus Christ and prayer. Over the last three years, our annual Good Samaritan race fundraiser has helped us provide funding for staff and support an additional 500 patient visits per year to people that otherwise couldn’t afford primary healthcare.

We invite you to our 4th annual Good Samaritan Race on Saturday, April 22, at Long Branch Park in Liverpool, New York. Our event starts at 9:30 a.m. with a Kids’ Sprint. At 10 a.m., the Good Samaritan race begins. This year, we are offering a new 10K in addition to the normal 5K. The 10K runners will lead the event with an out-and-back course on the West Lake Trail at Onondaga Lake from Long Branch. Cost is $30 per participant.

After the 10K race begins, 5K runners and walkers will begin on the Eastern Lake Trail on a flat, 5K (3.1) USATF certified course # NY14137JG. Race registration is $25 per person for the 5K. (Children 12 and under are free.) Register online at www.goodsamaritanrun.org.

Packet pickup will be in the Community Room at Fleet Feet Sports, 5800 Bridge St. in Dewitt on Friday, April 21, from 11a.m. to 6 p.m.

Water and refreshments will be available. Inspirational music, vendors, entertainment, and concessions will be on site from 9 a.m. to noon Immediately following the race, there’ll be an award ceremony with prizes for the top three finishers in each age group for the 5k, and top 2 for 10k. All participants receive a swag bag of goodies.

Proceeds enable CHSOS to continue offering quality healthcare to those in need. Space is available for vendors in our Health and Wellness themed Vendor Village. Monetary gifts may be sent by check payable to Christian Health Service of Syracuse, attn: Good Samaritan Run, 3200 Burnet Ave., Syracuse, NY 13206. Submit questions to goodsamaritanrun@gmail.com
